Sizing Your Fireplace for an Insert:
Please use the alphabetic references to help measure your fireplace, if you have
fireplace doors or screens of any kind please be sure to go inside and measure the
physical opening of the fireplace i.e. brick to brick, metal to metal......
(Many fireplace doors or screens overlap the opening of a fireplace to decoratively cover
the opening so it is aestheically pleasing to look at, these will be removed at the time of
installation and no longer used.)
This will assist you in determining the right insert for your fireplace.
You can print and use the chart below or simply record the measurements on a scrap piece
of paper.
You will also notice another chart mapping out any wood or combustable surfaces in
relation to your fireplace opening, these measurements are equally as important to
shopping for an insert. Fireplaces with wood or other combustibles to close require mantel
shields and additonal hearth protection to make them safe and code compliant. Please
don't overlook this important step, measure your fireplace and mantel and come in today!
